Legatura aeriana directa Bristol – Romania

The launch of a direct air-route Bristol-Romania could not have come at a more auspicious time for the business, tourist and academic travelling communities across the South West of England and Romania.  The new Bristol-Bucharest route, is yet a further confirmation of the increasing interconnectedness between various British and Romanian areas of economic and cultural activity.

British and Romanian travellers for business or leisure in the South West of England and beyond will now be able to fly directly to Romania without stopping over at various European airports and/or having to check-in at London and Luton airports, thus saving considerably in terms of costs and time and with a much lower impact on the environment.

We wish Ryanair and the Bristol and Bucharest International Airports best of luck and success in this new venture.

Dr Razvan U Constantinescu

Honorary Consul of Romania in Bristol

Bristol – Romania air route

This project has been initiated by Dr Razvan Constantinescu during the 2013 autumn, following suggestions from the members of the Romanian and British business and resident communities from across the South West of England.

Currently, South West travellers wishing to reach Romania by air must either fly from Bristol with a stop-over in Amsterdam, Berlin or Paris or to fly direct to Romania from Heathrow, Birmingham or Luton. All these options attract of course additional time, money and have a negative impact on the environment.

Progress: the project was formally proposed to representatives of the Bristol International Airport during the meeting with HE the Romanian Ambassador in UK Dr Ion Jinga, a meeting organised and hosted by the Bristol Chamber of Commerce in January 2014.

Following the meeting and the subsequent correspondence between the Bristol Airport representatives and the Honorary Romanian Consulate in Bristol, a new meeting took place in February 2014 during which various possible destinations in Romania were considered, Timisoara and Cluj being the preferred options.

Resources: all the resources (time, expertise and finance) necessary to the launch of this project are to be covered by the Honorary Romanian Consulate and the Bristol International Airport.

Schimburi academice Bristol – Romania

In plus firma Amdaris a oferit sponsorizarea prin acoperirea costului unui drum Bristol-Timisoara inclusiv zbor, transfer si cazare.

Termen : Intentionam ca semnarea acordului bilateral intre Bristol si Timisoara sa aiba loc in anul academic 2014/2015, primele schimburi urmand a fi desfasurate in anul academic 2015/2016.

Progres: Traducerea piesei in engleza a fost localizata.  Contacte initiale cu trupe de teatru locale si in Romania.  Scrisori tentative si discustii initiale cu producatori, regizori si sponzori romani si britanici.

Resurse: In functie de costurile asociate cu montarea piesei in Bristol sau transportul din Romania.

Termen: Probabil in 2016.

Romanian Theatre in Bristol – Eugene Ionesco’s Rhinoceros

Cultural project designed to showcase Romanian Theater, through Eugene Ionesco’s play The Rhinoceros. The play explores the typology of human characters succumbing to populist totalitarian movements, myths and stereotypes. Initially, the play was thought to be a direct reference to Nazism and/or Communism but gradually, a deeper understanding developed and the play’s relevance to consumerism, corruption, racism or homophobia became evident. The play is relevant to contemporary British society as it explores the society’s collective tendency to adopt different views and perceptions, previously alien to it. A warning through theater and art against laissez-faire attitudes towards extremism and xenophobic trends.

This project has been conceptualized and pioneered by Dr Razvan Constantinescu and will consist of the staging of Rhinoceros in Bristol  and the South West – by a local British or Romanian Theater Company.

Progress: English translation of Rhinoceros located. Contact with local theater group established. Preliminary sponsorship/involvement inquiry letters issued to potential stakeholders.

Resource : Depending on the setting up costs, logistics. Though much of the preparatory and planning stages will be covered by individual volunteers, we hope to attract UK local, national or Romanian sponsors covering the setting up, production and stages.

Release: Probably during the 2016

This project was initiated, led and completed by Andrei Dudau.

An IT specialist with many years’ experience of web design, Andrei  conceptualised and proposed this project as a communication portal between the Honorary Consulate in Bristol and the wider Romanian and British communities in the South West. In addition to the free of charge contribution in designing the page, Andrei also kindly offered to assist with on-going maintenance without any charges.

Having gone through several design stages we eventually settled for the current one and we hope that readers will find it user-friendly and accessible.

The page is designed to provide updates on current projects and developments, offer useful information and links to other sites and importantly: it opens an additional communication channel between community members and the Honorary Consulate Bristol.
