Progres: Traducerea piesei in engleza a fost localizata.  Contacte initiale cu trupe de teatru locale si in Romania.  Scrisori tentative si discustii initiale cu producatori, regizori si sponzori romani si britanici.

Resurse: In functie de costurile asociate cu montarea piesei in Bristol sau transportul din Romania.

Termen: Probabil in 2016.

Romanian Theatre in Bristol – Eugene Ionesco’s Rhinoceros

Cultural project designed to showcase Romanian Theater, through Eugene Ionesco’s play The Rhinoceros. The play explores the typology of human characters succumbing to populist totalitarian movements, myths and stereotypes. Initially, the play was thought to be a direct reference to Nazism and/or Communism but gradually, a deeper understanding developed and the play’s relevance to consumerism, corruption, racism or homophobia became evident. The play is relevant to contemporary British society as it explores the society’s collective tendency to adopt different views and perceptions, previously alien to it. A warning through theater and art against laissez-faire attitudes towards extremism and xenophobic trends.

This project has been conceptualized and pioneered by Dr Razvan Constantinescu and will consist of the staging of Rhinoceros in Bristol  and the South West – by a local British or Romanian Theater Company.

Progress: English translation of Rhinoceros located. Contact with local theater group established. Preliminary sponsorship/involvement inquiry letters issued to potential stakeholders.

Resource : Depending on the setting up costs, logistics. Though much of the preparatory and planning stages will be covered by individual volunteers, we hope to attract UK local, national or Romanian sponsors covering the setting up, production and stages.

Release: Probably during the 2016
